Suggested Readings
As a clinician I recommend a number of books to clients. These are not all necessarily clinical books by nature, but they are the best books I have read which motivate one to change. This may appear to be a short list, but I do this on purpose. I offer a simple place to start your journey. I do not benefit financially or otherwise by promoting these books. I simply wish to highlight a few works that, in my opinion, every person should read at least once in their life. This list is likely to expand over the years, but for now, these four books will change your life.
Man's Search For Meaning
By Viktor Frankl
Viktor Frankl was a Holocaust survivor and the father of Logotherapy. He writes about his experience during the Holocaust, how he found meaning in his suffering, and how that led to the creation of Logotherapy.
The Sunflower
By Simon Wiesenthal
Simon Wiesenthal was a Holocaust survivor who was asked by a Nazi SS Officer to forgive him. Simon writes about the limits and possibilities of forgiveness and opens a discussion that many scholars, professionals, and religious leaders have contributed to through the years
12 Rules For Life
By Dr. Jordan B. Peterson
Dr. Peterson is a Canadian Clinical Psychologist and Professor Emeritus from University of Toronto. In his book he clearly lays out 12 rules which, if you live by, will make your overall quality of life improve.
Reinventing Your Life
By Dr. Jeffrey Young and Dr. Janet Klosko
Dr. Young was a student of Aaron Beck and helped created a CBT-based therapy for personal disorders called Schema Therapy. He and his associate, Dr. Klosko, wrote this book to help clients apply Schema Therapy in their everyday life.
